Being a member of the Apparel, Textiles, and Merchandising (ATM) program has helped me to grow tremendously as a student and prepared me to be in the fashion industry. In this major, I have learned a lot about the back end of the industry, such as jobs, organizations, and issues I was unaware of previously. One of the biggest topics covered in this major is sustainability and the impact fashion has on the environment. Learning this is valuable because it taught me how much of a negative impact our industry has on the environment and human rights, and why it is so important that we, as a community, make a change. Another aspect of this major that helped to prepare me for this industry is the wide variety of topics we explored. We are taught about visual merchandising, buying, textiles, garment production and so much more. With all of this knowledge, I feel that I have a better understanding of specific jobs in the industry and how they work together to function as a whole. Overall this major has helped me find a true passion in life and has guided me on what interests and goals I have for working in the fashion industry.
